What is Upstream?

Upstream is a filmmaker-owned streaming co-operative for arthouse and independent cinema. A viewing subscription gives you access to films; co-op membership is a separate relationship for eligible people whose work made the films.

How do I watch films?

You can browse without an account. Sign in with an email link to watch. The catalogue requires an active subscription at launch. Streaming is available in Canada, subject to each title’s rights. Rentals are not offered at launch.

No free-film programme is promised at launch. If we introduce an offer later, we will show its dates, eligibility and viewing conditions. Creating an account alone does not unlock the catalogue.

How much does a subscription cost?

Visit Plans for the current price and currency. Monthly and annual subscriptions are available. Annual founding membership lets you choose an amount that meets the minimum requirement shown there; check the billing interval and total before subscribing.

How do I cancel?

Sign in and go to Account to manage billing. The cancellation flow takes you to the billing portal, where you can confirm cancellation and review your access end date.

Does subscribing make me a co-op owner?

No. A viewing subscription and co-op membership are separate. Eligible filmmakers and crew can be offered membership through their work on films that join Upstream. Points recognise that contribution; they are not purchased through a subscription or earned by inviting viewers. Rights-holder revenue is governed separately by licence agreements.
